Tensei Kizoku wa Taishi wo Idaku! - Chapter 8: 4-years-old, Contact start
Chapter 8: 4-years-old, Contact start
There were still servants left behind in the mansion, but it was still far less lively than before.
After all, the lord and his attendants leaving made a lot of difference.
However, Isaac didn’t want to waste this opportunity so he decided to visit Melinda’s annex, which he didn’t usually approach.
(Even though they came from different origins, is this much of a difference really normal?)
Isaac, who went to Melinda’s annex along with his maid, was surprised at the difference in the interior decor.
The annex for Lucia, where he usually lived, was a chic room, with solid interior and furniture befitting for the wife of a great aristocrat family.
(TL note: In the design world, ‘chic’ interior design typically means elegant, fashionable and trendy. I honestly didn’t know chic meant something like this.)
However, in Melinda’s case, it was totally different.
It was a room so heavily decorated that it could be easily mistaken for the royal palace.
‘Brilliance’, was the only thing Isaac could think of when looking at the room.
Not only was the interior of the room heavily decorated, but also the furniture was heavily framed and gilded with gold which only added to the flashy appearance of the room.
Still, it was not a nouveau riche hobby. One could say that such a display was a part of her character.
Melinda was the daughter of a Marquis family, and she had taste and money appropriate for her position.
(Even though I have lived for one extra lifetime, I can’t even imagine how much that golden candlestick will cost.)
Isaac thought so while staring at the candlestick.
In his previous life he was the son of a civil servant.
And in this world he had a mother who liked a calm atmosphere, so it was the first time that Isaac approached something that smelled of gold.
“Master Isaac, it seems like you are in a good mood. Lady Melinda and Master Nathan have left for the royal capital.”
Bella, the chief maid of Melinda’s annex, welcomed Isaac.
Bella knew that Isaac saw everyone off the owner of the annex.
So she was suspicious as to why Isaac decided to visit the place that he usually avoided.
“I know that. I came to talk to Bella and the others.”
Bella’s look changed from suspicious to one full of doubts and surprise.
“You’ve always taken care of my brother and Mrs. Melinda, so I brought some sweets as a thank you. I’d be happy if you could tell me what you think about them.”
Melinda hated his sugar-reduced sweets and called them “poor sweets”.
Naturally, Bella couldn’t get any of them into her mouth while working under Melinda.
But the maids actually wanted to eat them and see how they tasted.
“…That’s not all, right?”
Isaac pretended to be a little depressed.
Bella knew that that wasn’t Isaac’s only reason, so she wanted to know his actual reason.
Isaac regretfully bit his lower lip once and told her.
“I don’t know why, but it seems that Mrs. Melinda hates me. Even if I want to get along with my brother, he refuses to meet me … So I wanted to know more about him from you and the other maids.”
Bella sympathized with Isaac, who spoke to her in a sad, trembling tone.
In front of her was a child her grandchildren’s age who longed for his brother. And not a child who behaved like an adult with everyone.
Bella was not ruthless enough to refuse such a child’s request.
“Understood. Lady Melinda has left for the royal capital, so I don’t have any urgent work. I’ll tell you everything. I’ll gather the other maids, so can you give me about five minutes?”
“Thank you! Then, I’ll be waiting in the cafeteria with Sherry.”
Isaac smiled and headed over to the servant’s cafeteria with a young maid pushing a service wagon with sweets on it.
The interior was different, but the structure was the same.
So they just walked straight without worrying about getting lost whatsoever.
(It’s easy to believe children. If I build a relationship of trust now, it will be easier for me later.)
The appearance of a child had some downsides, but it also had its advantages.
Isaac decided to remember to prioritize the things he could do as a child.
“Really, they’re the worst aren’t they?”
“Although their positions are the same, still they look down on others.”
Once the story started, Isaac heated up without muttering a single word.
Bella and some of the other maids were prepared by Morgan from aristocrats under the Marquis of Wellrod.
The people who work in the mansion of the Marquis family are those who are directly related to the Viscount and the Baron families.
Nonetheless, Melinda prefered her servants from the Marquis of Wilmente.
All of them were brought in from her parents’ home in the royal capital.
Each person was more or less dissatisfied with the difference in treatment between the maids.
They couldn’t even forget their differences in front of Isaac.
“It’s hard for the maids to get along with each other …”
However, Isaac did not stop either.
He could get information about Milenda and Nathan from them.
Everyone had a concept of ‘I shouldn’t ask this’, but they didn’t have any concept of ‘personal information protection’ yet.
And since Isaac was a child, everyone’s guards were down.
After listening for a bit Isaac opened his mouth.
“That’s right. Especially since the Wellrods are way different than the Wilmentes.”
“How are they different?”
“The Marquis of Welrod is a family that has managed civilians for generations, while the Marquis of Wilmente is a family that has managed military personnel for generations. The aristocrats under their control are also influenced by it. It’s like the difference between a person who likes to read books and a person who likes to move around.”
(Is it the difference between humanities and athletics?)
The maids were fundamentally different.
And since Melinda prefered the use of Wilmente employees, the gap between the two grew even larger.
“But I like both reading books and playing with Patrick.”
Isaac said something childish in order to keep Bella and the other maids off guard.
To which Bella and the other maids just flashed a gentle smile.
“That’s a good thing, but when you grow up, it makes a lot of difference.”
Sherry said while placing the teacup on the table.
She usually ate some of the sweets in the name of tasting, but now in the meeting she read the atmosphere and didn’t touch even a single sweet.
“The chief maid and I are from the same Welrod aristocracy, and we’ve known each for a long time, but now I work separately as a servant for Lady Lucia and she for Lady Melinda. We work in the same mansion. But that now makes a lot of difference.”
To make it easier for Isaac to understand, Sherry spread her arms and gestured ‘big’.
(Yeah, surely big),
Thought Isaac while looking at Sherry whose chest swayed everytime she moved, despite wearing a tightly fitted maid uniform.
It was a pity that he didn’t feel sexual arousal because he was still a child.
(If I become a king, then I must make a harem.)
Because it was originally a game, it was a world full of beautiful men and women.
In this world, even Sherry, who was a mob character, was at a level where Isaac would have needed to kneel in front of her if he wanted to date her in his previous life.
(Will I grow up into someone who she’ll be able to like?)
Isaac was not very confident about it.
“Adults are difficult”
“Yes. Especially since Master Isaac is the heir of the Wellrod family, it’ll be really difficult for you to make your way around such things. But please, do your best.”
“Yup I will.”
Isaac cut off the subject and sipped a bit of tea.
“What kind of person is my brother actually? I rarely meet him, so please tell me.”
Until now, Isaac had acquired information about the atmosphere around Nathan and his mother Milenda.
(Next, I would like you to tell me about his daily life.)
However, Bella and the other maids seem to be thinking about something while wearing a dull look on their faces.
“That’s right … he’s a very energetic person.”
“A person with a huge appetite.”
They couldn’t think of any particular compliments, but Isaac was the heir.
They thought he’d get upset if they criticized Nathan.
So Isaac didn’t get the answer he needed.
(Hmm… ‘troublesome behaviour’ is energetic. ‘Noble’ is narcissism, and ‘appetite’… that’s just saying that he’s fat cuz he eats too much.)
These things weren’t actually problems.
These were quite okay for a child.
Originally, the maids were reluctant to say anything.
They knew Nathan would come out as childish when compared to Isaac.
If you think calmly, Nathan wasn’t at fault.
Nathan was like that because the story demanded it.
“Is there anything else?”
(――I want to know his story.)
Isaac asked the question with the eyes of a child who longed for his elder brother.
Regardless of the reason, it was true that he wanted to know his story.
“By the way……”
One of the maids shut her mouth while she absentmindedly tried to say something.
“Dora. Please tell me anything about my brother.”
Met by the gaze of an innocent boy curious about his brother, the maid named Dora couldn’t refuse.
“It seems that he was dueling with one of the knights from the guard, but he continued hitting… even after the guard had surrendered.”
But she regretted it as soon as those words left her mouth.
Because of those words, the entire room felt silent.
(Is it because he was dissatisfied or something or did he just find it fun? To duel a knight from the guard while being one of the heirs or the Wellrod family … Thank you for being so stupid!)
After finding out about that incident, Isaac felt satisfied.
If he collected such information little by little, he’d be able to use them as evidence if Nathan ever made a big mistake.
The maids working for Melinda seemed like a reliable source of information to Isaac.
“I see. My brother always stays on guard and careful so that his enemies won’t be able to stab him in the back.”
Isaac followed up Dora’s statement.
(If I let things get awkward then I might no longer be able to get information out of them.)
“That’s right. He has a strong will to win.”
Bella also followed suit.
There was no one who wanted to tell a four-year-old child that, ‘Your big brother was hitting someone who couldn’t defend himself, while using his position as a shield’.
Everyone wanted Isaac to stay as the ‘Curious watchful brother’.
“Master Isaac, we should head back now.”
Sherry, who read the atmosphere of the room, proposed the idea of going home.
(Seems like it’s time to go, it’s better to investigate bit by bit.)
“That’s right. Everyone must have work, I am sorry for disturbing you for such a long time.”
Isaac took Sherry’s suggestion.
He thought that the maids might get suspicious if he stayed there too long.
So Sherry’s suggestion was a great help.
“This was a treat. Certainly, the sweets with just the right amount of sweetness are delicious.”
“But they’re so easy to eat… it’s very difficult to not eat a lot of them.”
The maids expressed their impressions of the sweets as Isaac originally wished.
Some people said that they preferred the sweeter ones before, but the majority of them actually preferred it with moderate sugar.
It turned out that Isaac’s tastes were not a minority in this world.
(I don’t know if it’s a good thing. But I hope this helps me out in the future.)
Despite saying that, Isaac was a bit happy that he saw his ideas being accepted in this world.
“Thank you everyone. Tell me my brother’s stories sometime again.”
Isaac smiled and thanked the maids, and left the room with Sherry.
The maids followed behind them and saw off Isaac to the front door.
“By the way, why does Master Isaac know about my name? He rarely visits this place.”
“Well, even if you say it like that…”
Dora asked her colleague, but she didn’t get an answer right away. She paused for a bit and said:
“Master Issac remembers the names of almost everyone who works in the mansion. Though, he can’t remember the names of the ones who only occasionally come to the mansion.”
“He’s still so young, isn’t it amazing?”
“I am pretty happy just to have someone remember my name.”
Far from Nathan, even Melinda doesn’t try to remember their names.
Even among the ones brought from Wilmente, very few got their names remembered.
‘The servants are just tools for a noble person’, that was what most of the higher aristocrats thought.
However, even the servants have hearts.
Just the fact that someone remembered their names gave them a lot of happiness.
