Tensei Kizoku wa Taishi wo Idaku! - Chapter 14: 5-year-old Arriving at the royal capital.
Chapter 14: 5-year-old Arriving at the royal capital.
Most of the nobles of the Kingdom of Reed had a few different homes.
It was natural to have one in the royal capital, but there was also one in the territory they were entrusted with as well.
Of course, the one in their own territory was the one that felt more like home.
“Tiffany and Lisa should also be relaxing at their home in the royal capital.”
Isaac thought so.
The reason he thought so was because he himself was tired.
“That 2 week journey on the carriage was tiring … You think so too, right?”
Isaac was talking to Patrick who was sitting next to him.
It was painful even for the overly energetic Patrick to be carried for two weeks in a caged carriage.
He didn’t understand what Isaac said, but he yawned in a timely manner.
(As Lisa said, this mansion is large, really large. Moreover, it is in a prime location from where you can see the palace.)
Isaac looked out the window and saw the roof of the royal palace.
In this country, the aristocratic offices and guards’ garrison were situated around the royal palace, and the aristocratic mansions were surrounding all of them.
Moreover, the mansions of the Marquis and Counts, who have territories entrusted to them, had their mansions setup according to their territory’s locations.
The Wellrod family mansion was located southeast of the Royal Palace.
Aristocrats without territories could live anywhere.
However, it was unwritten that they should live near the mansions of the aristocrats that they were under, as Tiffany’s or Lisa’s house, aristocrats like them had their mansions closer to the Wellrod family’s mansion.
This was so that they could be summoned at any time.
However, they were not called upon unless some emergency arised.
In particular, it was just common sense to not summon someone right after a long journey, because they’d be tired as well.
When Isaac arrived at the mansion in the royal capital, he just asked the gardener to make a flower bed.
And now he was leisurely spending his time with Patrick.
(Even so, this Royal palace seems too easy to attack.)
Isaac was thinking about such things for the future.
The Royal Palace wasn’t very fortified, probably because it was mainly for administrative purposes.
They probably thought that no one would be able to attack the Royal Capital at all.
Or maybe it was just because the scenario writer didn’t think about it that much when he was making this world.
Whatever it was, it proved quite convenient for Isaac.
Attacking the Royal capital in this world would be way easier for Isaac when compared to the typical castles.
(The walls surrounding the city are thick and tall, but if you pretend to be a refugee fleeing from war and somehow let about a thousand soldiers in, you can open it from the inside. Even if they expect an attack from outside, they’ll surely be weaker on the inside.)
“The Royal capital isn’t as scary as a defensive fortress.”
Isaac came to that conclusion.
Of course, this was all just speculation.
If he did not become a lord and gathered allies among the aristocrats, then the dream of capturing the Royal Capital would stay a dream.
Even if you planned everything till the second and third moves, there would be no point to it if you stumbled on the first move itself.
First of all, he had to think about how he’d control the aristocrats.
He couldn’t find a solution for that one, so he busied himself thinking about something else.
(For the time being, I’d like to say hello to the Marquis of Windsor, who’s most likely to become a future ally. Help Pamela when she’s about to be executed, and they’d naturally get involved in the fight with the royal family. But it’d be better to make friendly relations from now.)
Although Isaac said that was his reason, he had another reason for which he wanted to meet Pamela.
Tiffany had already started to grow out her hair.
She didn’t start braiding it yet, but she’d probably start doing that after some time.
――So what about Pamela’s drill?
In anime and manga, drill-haired girls had their hair neatly done.
But in real life it would’ve been quite funny to see someone with hair like that.
(TL/N: ‘Drill hair’ search up ‘Beatrice from re-zero’ the same hairstyle is the one they’re talking about.)
Isaac wanted to know if her hair actually looked like croissants, like in the game.
She was a child so her hair might’ve been different.
However, that’s that.
One day, if Isaac suddenly encountered someone with drill hair then he’d certainly laugh out and go into a fit.
(No no no, that won’t be good.)
Isaac warned himself.
He wanted Pamela’s family as his ally, but if he laughed at her hair then he’d certainly be hated.
However, that won’t be a matter if he endured and kept his laugh inside.
All the women Isaac had encountered till now had normal hair, Pamela would be the only one with drill-hair.
If Isaac didn’t concentrate his mind, then he would start laughing the moment they met.
However, it won’t be good if Isaac became too conscious of his laughter and forgot to even smile.
To distract himself, Isaac started stroking Patrick’s head.
Patrick turned his face to Isaac with sleepy eyes as if saying, “I’m tired too …”.
(Yes. I can’t think of any good things when I’m tired too. Let’s take a rest for now)
Isaac layed down while using Patrick as a pillow.
Since that day in the garden, Isaac continued to sleep with Patrick as a pillow whenever he got the chance.
It was only possible for children to do this. Even though he had the body of a child, it was embarrassing for him to sleep with adults like Adela or Lucia.
Patrick was the best companion for situations like this.
Resisting Patrick’s soft fur at situations like these was not possible for Isaac.
As if saying “I wonder if you can pull back a little, because it’s hard to sleep”, Patrick tapped Isaac lightly with his tail a couple of times.
But he stopped immediately.
Because, as always, he knew that Isaac wouldn’t move.
Patrick gave up and started focusing on sleeping.
Why was Patrick so tolerant?
It’s because Isaac was a child.
There were all kinds of dogs, some big and some small.
Although the size of each breed differed, most people were somehow able to understand that they were ‘puppies’ by just looking at them.
Patrick felt the same thing with Isaac.
Although the race was different, he knew Isaac was a child.
Patrick had the ability to overlook what a child did.
And with a big yawn, Patrick closed his eyes.
At that time, he curled up a little, while surrounding Isaac, who was using Patrick’s belly as a pillow.
(TL/N: That must’ve felt nice.)
[PR note: yea man, the comf levels are off the charts]
The mansion in the royal capital was humongous.
Isaac and Lucia stayed in a room far away from Milenda.
Even so, there were three painful times where they had to meet, everyday.
The time to eat.
When they were in their own territory, they used to eat in their own annex, but in the royal capital, everyone was told to eat together.
First lady and second lady.
It was not necessary to get along well, but if they avoided each other even inside the capital, then it would give room for intervention from the Marquis of Wilmente.
‘If the ‘order of the wife’ is disturbed, the whole house will be disturbed.’
Originally, the fact that Lucia from the Viscount family “avoids Melinda from the Marquis family” could be denounced as being extremely rude.
Even if it was due to Randolph’s consideration.
――Melinda is the first lady, and Nathan had the second right to inheritance right after Randolph.
――Lucia and Isaac obey quietly.
――It was that they wanted to avoid such misunderstandings.
The elders insisted on that.
With the fact that they are eating together in the royal capital, they would be able to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings.
Milenda would speak to Lucia here as well.
But if she tried to start another situation here, then it’d become an excuse for a counter attack.
They were also a Marquis family of equal stature.
It was not just a one-sided fight.
However, that was the case between the Marquis of Wellrod and the Marquis of Wilmente.
The relationship between Lucia and Melinda inside the house was Randolph’s responsibility.
“Dear, Will you come to my parents’ house tomorrow?”
Melinda asked Randolph whether he would accompany her to her parents’ house.
She could go on her own, but the idea of going with her husband sounded better.
Lucia and Melinda’s relationship was a headache, but Milenda was still Randolph’s wife.
He had no intention of leaving her alone.
Moreover, unlike Lucia, Melinda usually lived far away from her family.
When in the Royal Capital, Milenda was given priority.
“Do you have any plans for tomorrow Lucia?”
Randolph intended to invite Lucia as well.
He hoped to improve their relationship by going to Melinda’s parents’ house with her.
However, Melinda glared at Lucia.
―― “Don’t come,” she said.
“I’m thinking of meeting my friends. It’s been a long time since we met.”
Lucia didn’t want to go either, and moreover, Melinda was glaring at her.
It’s true that she was thinking of meeting her friends.
She used that as an excuse, and refused the invitation to visit the Marquis of Wilmente.
“Oh, I see. That’s right. It’s been five years since then.”
Randolph was convinced.
If you were an aristocrat under Wellrods, then you could meet with the other aristocrats anytime.
However, the only time you could meet the family of bureaucrats who work in the royal capital and those who live in other territories was when they gathered in the royal capital.
Lucia became pregnant and since then, she had been living in the Wellrod mansion.
She finally got the chance to meet her friends after so long.
Randolph didn’t want to crush it.
However, Lucia’s behaviour was a bit problematic as an aristocrat.
She should’ve given priority to the greater aristocrats rather than her friends.
But, it was still forgiven because she was the daughter of a local aristocratic Viscount family.
Unless she had married Randolph, she wouldn’t have received a chance to meet the Marquis of Wilmente.
But Isaac thought it was okay that she refused the invitation.
However, Morgan scoffed, saying that Randolph’s idea was “too sweet.”
This was not for Lucia.
He was against Milenda.
When Melinda got married, she acknowledged Lucia’s existence.
Randolph should’ve been more careful whenever Milenda tried to make Lucia an outcast.
Before being Milenda’s family home, The Marquis of Wilmente was a well-known family which supported the Kingdom of Reed and held it together.
It was okay for Lucia to go with Randolph and greet them.
But, Lucia wasalso Lucia.
She was Randolph’s wife.
In other words, she was a lady of the Marquis of Wellrod.
Morgan didn’t want Lucia to keep behaving like a lady from the Viscount family.
Even if she was rejected by Melinda, he wanted Lucia to say “It’s basic courtesy” with a powerful spirit, and go greet them anyway.
(I’ll deal with you later.)
It was not for Melinda or Lucia.
It was for Randolph.
Morgan wanted to interfere directly, but Randolph was now a parent with two wives and children.
Morgan didn’t want Randolph to become fully dependent on him and Margaret.
‘If he thinks carefully about the future then he’d surely notice these things’ ,Morgan thought.
He couldn’t just scold Randolph and say, “hold your wife’s reins firmly”.
If he did such a thing in front of children then Randolph’s face would be crushed.
So, Morgan decided to call him and lecture him properly later.
“Isaac, what do you want to do?”
Randolph asked Isaac, unaware of Morgan’s plan to scold him.
“If father and mother are going out, then I want to go out too. Grandfather, do you have any plans for today?”
Morgan exchanged glances with Margaret.
They already had important plans for the next day.
But Morgan thought it was okay for Isaac to accompany them.
Margaret had the same opinion, so she nodded to Morgan in agreement.
“I am going to go meet the Marquis of Windsor tomorrow. You can meet him as well. And there’s a girl of the same age as you there. Would you like to come?”
“Yes, I’ll go”
Isaac immediately accepted Morgan’s offer.
Isaac was just thinking about the drill hair.
An adult laughing at her hair would’ve been way different than a child laughing at it.
Isaac wanted to get used to it as quickly as possible.
Of course, that’s not all.
It was necessary to meet the Marquis of Windsor, who was at the top of Isaac’s ‘potential allies list’.
This was an opportunity he couldn’t miss.
A teasing voice flew into Isaac’s ears, who was pleased with his grandfather’s invitation.
“Heh, all your friends are girls.”
It was Nathan.
Isaac was calmly sitting in his place, that’s because he knew how the conversation would go.
It was just a tease, but Nathan tried to mock something Isaac was really looking forward to.
It was true that he wanted to see Pamela.
However, Isaac was much older than Nathan in mental age.
Although he was a bit angry, he wanted to parry Nathan’s statement calmly.
“That’s right, but no matter who it is, new encounters are always wonderful. I want to cherish them when they last.”
Nathan said “I want a MALE friend”, in a sarcastic tone to agitate Isaac.
Isaac knew Nathan’s intentions already, so he didn’t want to play on Nathan’s terms.
Nathan wanted Isaac to reply angrily.
But Isaac didn’t show any such emotions, his usual calm demeanor was especially effective in face of sarcasm.
If there was no reaction to sarcasm, then there would be no more sarcasm.
Thanks to that, Nathan couldn’t say anything back even though he felt his anger boiling up inside him.
“Isaac, you’re coming with us then.”
“Make sure you don’t oversleep tomorrow.”
Morgan cut in between them to prevent them from arguing any further.
He knew it was something that Randolph along with Lucia or Melinda should do, but he couldn’t stand to see his cute grandchildren arguing with each other.
He thought Randolph would also barge into the conversation.
But before that, Isaac replied to Morgan.
Isaac’s attitude of, ‘I don’t care about what Nathan has to say’, annoyed Nathan even more.
From Isaac’s point of view, it was just children disliking each other.
However, from the perspective of Nathan, who didn’t understand that, Isaac was just someone “who thinks too highly of himself because he’s smart”.
Isaac was unaware that his pacifistic behaviour only made Nathan angrier.
