Morning.
Just as I was about to head to the guild, I encountered Albrevit.
It looks like he just got home.
Though it’s still dawn, he looks worn out with bags under his eyes.
I was about to greet Albrevit while having this weird feeling about him but he sped up his pace and walked past me as I bowed.
“Just watch.”
I turned my head a little, but he was already far.
I remembered Bruno’s words.
It seems to be true… that for Albrevit, this is not a favorable condition at all.
*
I met with Asuna and Jodi-san, who I made a [Familiar] contract with, at a cafe in town.
I sat opposite them face to face.
“Oi! Over there… that’s an amazing beauty, huh?”
“Both are equally pretty… are there beauties like that in this town?”
“You, try calling them out…”
Our surroundings are a bit noisy as their attention went to Asuna and Jodi-san in front of me.
There were some who wants to ask them out but those two are too beautiful that it made them feel discouraged. So
in reality, no one’s asking them out.
Jodi-san then bowed her head to me while sitting down.
“Please take care of me from now on, Master.”
“Master?”
I tilted my head.
“It’s just natural since it’s a master-servant contract. Do you want me to call you with a different name?”
….I see.
“It’s better to leave it be. It’s kind of awkward. Please just call me normally.”
“Is that acceptable?”
“I wish for it.”
Jodi-san kept gazing at me for a while.
She kept staring as if to discern the truth of my words.
Then…
“Understood. I’ll be calling you Liam-kun, okay?”
“Alright.”
Since she’s older than me, she also had to consider her manner of speaking and personality.
[Kun] is the most fitting way for her, so I’m not complaining.
“Well, I understand how Jodi-san feels…”
Asuna chimed in on our conversation.
“Is that so?”
“Un! Lately, Liam looks somewhat cooler. You’re also dependable and actually really amazing. Even though you’re younger
,
but… really… well…you are exuding that master-like feeling…”
“Yes. Even just by being together like this makes my heart thump.”
“Jodi-san’s not yet hunting together with us but she already feels like this, huh? When we start working together, I’m sure that that feeling’s going to be stronger.”
“Ara, ara, I’m looking forward to it.”
Asuna and Jodi-san, these two are showing their affection to me.
Because of that, I was being stared at by the men around this cafe.
I’m happy that they are giving me affection but we’re outside.
To not provoke anyone more than this, I changed the conversation.
“Although it’s late to say it now, from now on, we’re going to be an official party. Is that alright, Jodi-san?”
“That’s a given. Right, Jodi-san?”
“Yes, please let me be with you.”
“I see. Then, please take care of me.”
I put out my right hand for a handshake and she returned it with a smile.
The order is really messed up but with this, Jodi-san is now officially in our party.
“Then, what do we do from now?”
Asuna asked me the plan from here on out. Jodi-san also gazed at me, waiting for my answer.
“Let’s steadily go hunting.”
“Is it okay, Liam? You are already a Baron, right? Shouldn’t we like, take a bigger request or something better?”
“Even if I have a title, it’s not like my comrades are suddenly changed too. If we pushed it and failed, it’ll only be a nuisance for others and that might make our surroundings awkward.
Let’s do what we can do with our current power.”
“Ho-….”
“Ara…”
Asuna and Jodi-san agreed with deeply moved eyes.
*
We left the cafe and went to the guild for a while. Then after we confirmed the info for the hunt, we moved out of town.
It seems like the wild dogs’ clean-up will be up until James goes home, so we decided to take it.
We walked through the already familiar road and when we faced a prey, Jodi-san released her arrow.
The arrow that she pulled to the limit, traveled a 20-meter distance, and pierced the wild dog.
“Asuna-chan!”
“Roger!”
Asuna took her stance with her two daggers and leaped.
That Wild dog was to retreat but it was pierced with an arrow and can’t move.
Asuna instantly closed her distance between them to cut its neck.
It can be seen even from a distance that it was a refined technique.
Her physical ability is clearly higher than before we made the contract.
“This is amazing…”
“Nn?”
“My vision’s even better than before.”
“Is it that good ?”
“For an Archer, their eyes are everything. If you can’t see the target, then you can’t aim in the first place.”
“That’s true… by the way, how clear is your vision right now?”
“Hmm… It’s to the point that I can see the rock over there.”
“You said rock but…”
I followed the direction of Jodi-san’s finger.
I exerted my eyes to the limit, and somehow, I could see a rock-like shadow 100 meters ahead.
“That… a rock?”
“Yes.”
She’s still pointing straight at it.
Hmm… this is hard.
I felt that it’s a rock but with my eyesight, it’s hard to confirm.
Since I can’t see it, I turned towards Jodi-san.
“…It’s better to be able to see something far away, right?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Then, the more you can see means…?”
“I won’t say it’s a bad thing.”
“Then…[Build up].”
I cast one from 100 magic I’ve learned to Jodi-san. It’s strengthening magic.
Jodi-san’s body was enveloped by the magic light.
“Ara, araara. Araaraaraara!”
Jodi-san excitedly looked around with her hands on her cheeks.
“What’s wrong, Jodi-san?”
Asuna who just got back, asked Jodi-san while carrying the wild dog’s head.
“It seems that I can see farther away now.”
“Farther away?”
“For example, behind that rock earlier, there were two mating rabbits.”
“That’s far too much!”
In the first place, that rock can’t really be seen from here.
“What… What did you do, Liam?”
“Actually, I cast strengthening magic to her eyes.”
“Strengthening magic?”
“Erm…aa that time, huh? Didn’t you say that it will put a lot of burden on the body?”
“Yeah. But, if it’s eyesight alone, there should be no problem.”
“I see…”
Asuna agreed.
In the meantime, Jodi-san who was holding her bow pulled the string to the limit before releasing.
The arrow flew through the mountain and…
“I hit it.”
“Eh?”
“Asuna-chan. Forgive me but, can you go confirm it for me?”
“What is?”
“You will know if you go straight ahead.”
“Understood!”
She ran straight just like the wind.
She went out with great momentum and came back with great momentum.
“That’s amazing!”
“What’s amazing?”
“If you approach, there’s a rock over there but, in reality, there were 2 rocks that are really close together with the gap
of about one fist. Her arrow was caught between the gap.”
“You aimed at a fist-sized gap with a distance of 100 meters!?”
I was shocked.
“It’s thank to you, Liam-kun. If it’s me in the past, then I couldn’t have done it.”
“I know. Me too… when I was thinking about cutting the neck, I ended up cutting through it.”
“Thank you, Liam-kun.”
“Me too, thank you!”
They thanked me with bright smiles.
Un, it’s not a bad feeling.
*
After that, we steadily hunted the wild dogs, put the dead bodies inside [Item Box], and went back to the guild.
We were about to report and get the rewards but when we got back, the inside of the guild is noisier than usual.
The atmosphere is so heavy, and everybody’s panicking.
“Just what happened, I wonder? Hey, did something happened?”
Asuna tried to understand the current situation by talking with a nearby hunter.
That hunter answered with a flustered face.
“He really did it… that Hamilton young master!”
“Young master? Who ?”
“The eldest! He made a failure by releasing the seal!”
“Seal… eh?”
“Hey!”
He simply said that before running off.
Seal, and [that].
“Just watch.”
I remembered the words Albrevit had said to me this morning.
It seems that he wanted to compete with me, so he turned to one of our father’s failures… and now, the one who failed is not just my father anymore.
Translator and Editor Notes:
IT’S TOO CONTRADICTIVE, AUTHOR-SAN!
If you wanted to say that strengthening magic has a burden to the body, then stick with it!
A reason that if it’s the eyes then there will be no problem, is too shallow.
I mean, there’s a risk of losing eyesight or deteriorate etc, isn’t that logical from the lore standpoint? And now, he just nullified it.
And what’s with her bow? Is it enchanted with magic? 100 meters with a bow is impossible no matter how good your eyes are.
I know this is a power-building novel but I’m tired of them flexing everything.
